The Renumber Unit form enables you to correct any errors in the equipment ID of the selected unit. If you do not select a unit in the list view or select multiple units, the Renumber option is disabled.

When a user enters a container ID at the gate or in any other form that may create a new unit, it is checked against the container reference data (on page 1). If N4 finds a record with the same first 10 digits (equipment prefix + number) but a different check digit, it takes one of the following actions:

You can use the Renumber Unit form to correct the check digit for an existing Container ID.

The check digit you specify in the Renumber Unit form must be correct according to the associated check digit algorithm. The algorithm uses the four character prefix and the six digit container ID to verify the specified check digit. You can associate a check digit algorithm with a container ID prefix using the Equipment Prefix form (on page 1).

To renumber a unit:

  1. In the Correct Container ID field, enter the new or the correct equipment ID.

The new equipment ID must be unique and not used by any other unit in the system.

  1. Click Save.

When you renumber a unit, N4 records the UNIT_CHECKDIGIT event (may or may not be billable) against the unit. You can view the event details from the Unit Inspector (on page 1) History, Events tab (on page 1) for the unit.
